Pueblo Police Vehicle Hits, Kills Armed Shoplifting Suspect

Antonio Herrera, 36, was identified by the Pueblo County Coroner's Office as the suspect fatally struck by a Pueblo police patrol vehicle following an attempted shoplifting at Famous Footwear. Police attempted to contact Herrera, who fled on foot while brandishing a handgun and refusing to comply with commands to drop the weapon. The pursuit involved officers both on foot and in a patrol vehicle, ending when a Pueblo police officer struck Herrera near the Colorado State Patrol's Pueblo office. Despite emergency medical aid at the scene, Herrera was pronounced dead. The Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation, with the 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team also activated. Details remain under investigation as authorities continue to review the circumstances of the incident.
