Birmingham Police Announce Arrest in Mass Shooting

Birmingham Police have arrested 22-year-old Damien McDaniel in connection with a mass shooting in the Five Points South entertainment district that left four dead and 17 injured. McDaniel faces charges of capital murder and 17 counts of attempted murder related to this incident, as well as charges for two additional shootings, including the murder of an innocent bystander, Diontranet Brown. Alongside McDaniel, three other suspects have been charged in connection with a separate homicide. The community played a vital role in the investigation, providing over 300 tips to police. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin emphasized the commitment to capturing all responsible for the violence, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies involved. Despite the arrests, investigations are ongoing to determine if additional suspects are involved.
