UK Signs £8bn Deal for 20 Eurofighter Typhoons
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an £8 billion deal in Ankara to sell 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets and met President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the visit. Downing Street and UK officials said the purchase will sustain roughly 20,000 British manufacturing jobs, with more than a third of each aircraft to be produced in the UK by the Eurofighter consortium led by BAE Systems. The agreement was possible after Germany lifted earlier objections and is the first new Typhoon order since 2017. Reporting indicates Ankara may receive some used Typhoons quickly from Qatar and Oman to meet urgent needs while pursuing a larger transitional fleet of F-16s and F-35s until its domestically built KAAN fighter enters service. Starmer was accompanied by Defence Secretary John Healey and senior military officials for the announcement.
