Connecticut Mother Loses Home in Flooding

Randi Marcucio, a single mother from Oxford, Connecticut, received uplifting news after her home collapsed due to severe flooding. Sonograms of her now-3-year-old son, which had washed away in a swollen brook, were discovered about 30 miles away on Compo Beach in Westport and returned to her by a stranger named Nancy Lewis. Marcucio expressed her emotional reaction, stating, 'Honestly, it felt like holding a piece of my heart, a piece of my soul.' Lewis found the sonograms while walking on the beach and, upon learning about Marcucio's situation, sought to help her. The return of the sonograms provided Marcucio with a small comfort amid the devastation caused by the flooding, which saw over a foot of rain fall in the area, turning the brook into a raging river. The community's compassion during this challenging time highlights the resilience and support that can emerge in the face of tragedy.
