French Backpacker Found Dead Near Cambodia's Angkor Wat

Lisa Girard-Fabre, a 23-year-old French backpacker and volunteer residing in Cambodia since 2024, was found dead near Angkor Wat after going missing for two days. She was last seen jogging near Siem Reap, where she was preparing to run in the Angkor Half-Marathon to raise funds for a local NGO supporting disadvantaged children. Cambodian police reported that an autopsy determined her cause of death to be cardiac arrest, with no signs of injury or violence on her body, and her personal belongings were found at the scene. Lisa had been traveling overland from France without using airplanes and had volunteered for the NGO "A Child’s Smile," which helps out-of-school children. Her death is not linked to any crime, and her body has been handed over to the French Embassy for repatriation. Friends and authorities expressed condolences and confirmed her dedication to helping Cambodian children during her stay.
