Hong Kong's public dental clinics experienced a 26.5% absence rate during the initial days of a new online booking system, prompting health authorities to implement a waiting list starting Monday. Of the 151 individuals scheduled for appointments, 40 did not attend, with many citing scheduling conflicts or forgetfulness. The Department of Health indicated that they would continue to monitor attendance and consider measures to deter no-shows if necessary. Moreover, individuals aged 65 and older who registered but were not selected will be prioritized on the waiting list. The clinics aim to fill any vacancies promptly to ensure efficient use of services, particularly as some patients were unaware that available sessions were restricted to emergency dental services. Health officials emphasize the importance of improving attendance without compromising the quality of care.
