Dunk-and-Egg Series Premieres January 2026
HBO has set A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — a six-episode adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novella The Hedge Knight — to premiere in January 2026 and has released a poster and first-look materials. The series stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire Egg, and is showrun by co-creator Ira Parker. It is set between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, placing events decades to roughly a century before GOT, and takes a grounded, low-to-the-ground, character-driven approach focused on ordinary people rather than royal spectacle. Producers said the series will forego the franchise’s signature sprawling animated opening and orchestral theme in favor of a simple medieval title card to reflect Dunk’s plain perspective. The six-episode show emphasizes intimate, character-driven storytelling and attention to everyday medieval roles such as armorers and barmaids.
