Black Bear Launches US Distribution with Sydney Sweeney Boxing Drama Christy

The biographical sports drama "Christy," starring Sydney Sweeney as pioneering female boxer Christy Martin, will have its U.S. theatrical release on November 7, 2025, marking the inaugural release for Black Bear's new U.S. distribution arm. The film, directed by Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner David Michôd and co-written with Mirrah Foulkes, chronicles Martin's rise in boxing and her personal struggles, including an abusive relationship. It premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and features a supporting cast including Ben Foster, who plays Martin's trainer and husband, as well as Merritt Wever and Katy O’Brian. Black Bear, which financed and produced the film, is positioning "Christy" as a major awards season contender, particularly for Sweeney's transformative lead performance.
