Notre Dame AD Seeks Annual Clemson Rivalry Game

Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua has expressed a strong desire to establish an annual rivalry with Clemson, viewing it as a way to enhance the Fighting Irish's football schedule and boost their playoff aspirations. Speaking ahead of the National Championship game, Bevacqua noted that matchups with Clemson have developed into a significant rivalry over a short period, with the teams having played five times from 2018 to 2023. While Notre Dame currently plays five ACC teams each season, the quality of those opponents has been questioned, and Bevacqua believes a consistent game against Clemson would elevate their competition level. However, the feasibility of this arrangement is uncertain, as Clemson also has its longstanding rivalry with South Carolina. Despite the desire for such a matchup, neither team is scheduled to play each other in the upcoming seasons. Establishing this annual showdown could take time but would be a valued addition to college football.
