Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that the PM Vishwakarma scheme has yet to be notified in Tamil Nadu, despite its success in supporting micro enterprises and MSMEs across India. Meanwhile, artisans from Balaramapuram are experiencing a festive surge in demand for their traditional handloom products as Onam approaches. In Ludhiana, an Exhibition-cum-Trade Fair dedicated to PM Vishwakarma artisans has been organized from September 12 to 14, showcasing the work of around 70 artisans and craftspeople. The PM Vishwakarma scheme aims to enhance the skills, financial viability, and market access for artisans involved in 18 traditional trades, with over 18 lakh artisans already registered. Rising costs and low demand are putting pressure on idol makers ahead of Vishwakarma Puja, highlighting the challenges faced by local artisans. The event in Ludhiana is part of ongoing efforts to provide marketing support to these artisans, indicating a broader commitment to preserving traditional crafts.
