Hannah Cruz Joins Richard Linklater's Merrily We Roll Along Adaptation

Hannah Cruz has been cast as Gussie Carnegie in Richard Linklater's long-anticipated film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's musical 'Merrily We Roll Along,' which will be filmed over the next 20 years, similar to his previous work on 'Boyhood.' Joining Cruz in the cast are Paul Mescal as Franklin Shepard, Beanie Feldstein as Mary Flynn, and Ben Platt as Charley Kringas. The film, which chronicles the lives of three friends in reverse chronological order, is expected to premiere in the early 2040s. Cruz, recently seen in the Tony-winning musical 'Suffs,' expressed her excitement on Instagram about the project, which began filming in 2019. The story explores themes of friendship and ambition, reflecting the characters' tumultuous journeys from Broadway to Hollywood. The recent Broadway revival of 'Merrily We Roll Along' won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, revitalizing interest in the musical.
