USMNT Beats Haiti, Advances to Gold Cup Quarters
The U.S. men's national soccer team topped Group D at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 2-1 win over Haiti in Arlington, Texas, finishing group play with a perfect record. Malik Tillman opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Louicius Don Deedson equalized for Haiti after a defensive error by U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese in the 19th minute. Patrick Agyemang scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute, assisted by John Tolkin. Coach Mauricio Pochettino rotated the squad, making four changes to manage yellow card risks. The U.S. will face the runner-up from Group A, either Mexico or Costa Rica, in the quarterfinals. Analysts and fans noted the U.S. performance was not fully convincing despite the win.
