Southport North Carolina Shooting Kills Three Injures Five Suspect Is Retired Marine

Nigel Edge, formerly known as Sean DeBevoise, is the accused gunman in a deadly mass shooting at a dockside restaurant in Southport, North Carolina, which left three people dead and at least five injured. Edge, a decorated Marine veteran who served in Iraq and suffers from severe PTSD, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon. In 2012, under his former name, he appeared on the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards as the date of American Idol star Kellie Pickler, who described him as a sincere friend and an angel. The pair originally met at a charity event for wounded soldiers, but Edge later filed a bizarre lawsuit against Pickler, alleging she tried to poison him at the awards. Edge's military service included being wounded by friendly fire in Iraq, and he was awarded a Purple Heart. Authorities say the shooting was "highly premeditated," and Edge is currently held without bond.
