Man charged with murdering Cobb County mother was in U.S. illegally

Hector David Sagastume Rivas, a 21-year-old man from Honduras, has been charged with the murder of 52-year-old Camillia Williams, a mother of five, in Cobb County, Georgia. Authorities allege that Rivas strangled Williams, using a chokehold before applying his full body weight on her neck, leading to her death. Williams' body was discovered in a wooded area on March 13, following her disappearance. Rivas entered the U.S. illegally in March 2021 and had been previously arrested by Border Patrol; an order for his removal was issued in July 2023. The case has drawn attention to Rivas's immigration status, with ICE confirming they have lodged a detainer to ensure he remains in custody during removal proceedings.
