American archaeologist Karla Dana, 29, from Orlando, Florida, tragically died when a replica Viking boat named Naddoddur capsized off the coast of Norway during a stormy North Sea expedition. The boat was attempting to recreate a historical Viking voyage from the Faroe Islands to Norway but encountered severe weather, with waves up to 16 feet high and strong winds. A distress signal was sent out, and five other crew members from Switzerland and the Faroe Islands were rescued by helicopter after surviving on an inflatable life raft. The rescue operation was complicated by initial confusion over distress calls. Norwegian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Dana's body was found under the capsized boat, and no charges have been filed yet.
