President William Ruto Attends Second Africa Climate Summit in Ethiopia
President William Ruto has traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the second Africa Climate Summit, which focuses on advancing Africa's leadership in climate action and green growth. He will launch the report "From Nairobi to Addis Ababa: Africa’s Journey of Climate Action and Partnership," reviewing progress since the inaugural 2023 summit and outlining future pathways. During the summit, Ruto will witness the signing of the Cooperation Framework for the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), a collaborative effort involving African governments, financiers, the AfCFTA Secretariat, and private sector partners to accelerate green industrialization and mobilize investment. As chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), he will advocate for fair resource valuation, equitable carbon pricing, and financial reforms to alleviate Africa's debt burden and climate risks. Beyond climate issues, Ruto will participate in the Africa-CARICOM Summit addressing reparatory justice, debt sustainability, and transcontinental cooperation, as well as bilateral meetings to strengthen trade and joint action on global challenges. Additionally, he will preside over the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, a major hydroelectric power project on the Blue Nile River.
