Stuart Semple showcases paint from newly discovered Olo color
British artist Stuart Semple has created a paint called 'Yolo' inspired by a newly discovered blue-green color, 'Olo,' identified by scientists at the University of California, Berkeley through laser experiments that pushed the limits of human color perception. The scientists discovered Olo by firing laser pulses into their own eyes to stimulate specific retinal cells, revealing a previously unseen hue. Semple replicated this color by analyzing the spectral data from the scientific research and combining pigments with fluorescent optical brighteners to achieve a similar effect. He is selling the paint at a premium price to non-artists, while offering it at a significantly lower cost to artists in line with his campaign to make exclusive colors accessible. Semple has a history of challenging color exclusivity, previously creating widely available versions of restricted or corporately owned colors. He acknowledges that while his paint may not fully replicate the direct experience of the scientific discovery, it is the closest possible physical emulation available to the public.
