Six Detained in Venezuela for Alleged CIA-Led Plot

Venezuelan authorities have arrested six foreign nationals, including three Americans, two Spaniards, and a Czech citizen, on suspicion of plotting to assassinate President Nicolas Maduro and destabilize the country. Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello claimed the suspects were part of a CIA-led operation and had smuggled in over 400 firearms. The U.S. State Department and Spanish government categorically denied any involvement in the alleged plot. The arrests come amid heightened tensions following a disputed presidential election on July 28, which the opposition and international observers claim was rigged in Maduro's favor. The U.S. recently imposed sanctions on 16 of Maduro’s allies, and Spain recognized opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as the election winner, further straining diplomatic relations.
