August 2024 has been confirmed as the deadliest month in Balochistan in the past six years, with an alarming increase in anti-state violence, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). A total of 254 fatalities occurred across Pakistan, including 92 civilians, 54 security personnel, and 108 militants, predominantly due to 83 militant attacks that resulted in 175 deaths. Balochistan alone recorded 125 deaths, with a staggering 277% increase in violent incidents compared to the previous month. The report highlights ongoing human rights abuses, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, amid a deteriorating security situation. While Balochistan faces heightened violence, other regions have shown signs of improved security. The trend suggests a complex landscape of conflict, marked by intensified military operations and rising casualties among both militants and security forces.
