In an effort to boost civic engagement among young adults, Seaman High School in Kansas and Leo Catholic High School in Chicago recently held voter registration drives aimed at seniors and high school students. At Seaman, a partnership with the League of Women Voters allowed seniors to register and learn about the significance of voting, with educators emphasizing the empowerment that comes from participation in democracy. Similarly, Leo High School partnered with Get Out the Vote for Teens, providing students with the opportunity to register to vote ahead of the November elections. Principal Dr. Shaka Rawls highlighted the importance of giving Black and brown students a platform to engage in civic duties, while students expressed their eagerness to embrace the responsibility of voting. The events coincided with Teen Voter Registration Day, aiming to facilitate the registration process and educate students on their rights. Overall, these initiatives reflect a growing movement to ensure young voices are heard in the electoral process.
