India Holds Drills After Strikes on Pakistan Terror Camps

India conducted a nationwide civil defence mock drill on May 7, 2025, across 244 districts and several major cities to boost emergency preparedness amid heightened tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. The Ministry of Home Affairs directed states to simulate air raids, blackouts, evacuations, and casualty management, with air raid sirens and blackouts executed in locations such as Punjab, Bihar, and Maharashtra. The exercise involved thousands of volunteers and emergency personnel, focusing on training civilians and updating evacuation plans. These drills followed India's retaliatory Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK, marking an escalation in military response. Officials stressed the drills are precautionary, did not disrupt essential services, and are part of a long-term strategy for sustained civil defence readiness. The initiative also aims to enhance public awareness and resilience to a range of threats.
