San Bernardino Deputy Killed; Suspect Captured After Chase

San Bernardino County Deputy Andrew Nunez, a six-year department veteran and father of a two-year-old with another child on the way, was fatally shot while responding to a report of an armed man threatening a woman in Rancho Cucamonga. The suspect fled on a motorcycle and led law enforcement on a region‑wide, high‑speed pursuit along the eastbound 210 Freeway, with video accounts reporting speeds above 150 mph and up to 172 mph. Video shows the rider lose control after an off‑duty sheriff’s deputy in an unmarked vehicle deliberately struck the motorcycle in what officials described as a legal pursuit intervention, sending the suspect and bike tumbling and scattering debris. Officers took the suspect into custody and he was taken to a hospital in stable condition; authorities say he will be booked on murder charges once medically cleared. Sheriff Shannon Dicus and the department mourned Nunez’s death, pledged support for his family, and said investigators will pursue justice.
