Dominic McLaughlin Cast as Harry Potter in HBO Series Filming UK

Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as Harry Potter in HBO's highly anticipated television adaptation of the Harry Potter series, currently in production in the United Kingdom and expected to continue until spring 2026. McLaughlin expressed that stepping into the role feels surreal, as he has been a longtime fan and considers it a dream role. Alongside McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will play Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively, selected from over 30,000 young actors. The series will feature a notable ensemble cast including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, among others. HBO released first-look images of McLaughlin in full Harry Potter costume and Nick Frost as Hagrid, with the series set to premiere in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner and writer, with Mark Mylod directing, and J.K. Rowling involved as an executive producer.
