Florida Man Faces Life for Stepson Fortnite Shooting

In Davenport, Florida, Kelly Agar Garcia, 43, was charged with second-degree murder and unlawful storage of a firearm after fatally shooting his stepson, Azareel Martinez, 26, during a domestic dispute that began over the video game Fortnite. The incident started when Martinez's 9-year-old brother was disciplined for playing Fortnite and retrieved a handgun from his parents' bedroom. Garcia wrestled the gun away from the child, prompting an argument with Martinez that escalated to Garcia shooting Martinez multiple times, including as Martinez tried to flee. Martinez died at a local hospital from his injuries. Authorities emphasized that the tragedy might have been avoided if the child had not known the location of the firearm. Garcia remains in custody and faces a possible life sentence if convicted.
