Hiker Dies in Rockslide Near Pfeifferhorn, Utah
A 49-year-old man died Saturday morning after falling about 700 feet during a rockslide while hiking solo near Pfeifferhorn in Little Cottonwood Canyon, southeast of Salt Lake City. The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when the hiker triggered loose rocks, causing a cascade that swept him down the mountain. Despite immediate aid from a nearby doctor and a nursing student, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and search and rescue teams recovered his body nearly two hours later. Authorities have not released his identity pending notification of next of kin, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials confirmed no other hikers were injured. The tragedy follows another recent fatal climbing accident involving a Utah man in Glacier National Park, emphasizing the risks of mountain recreation.
