Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley Joins AFL as Chief Operating Officer

Tom Harley, the Sydney Swans CEO and former two-time premiership captain, will join the AFL as the new chief operating officer at the end of the 2025 season. Harley's appointment aims to strengthen the AFL's leadership team under CEO Andrew Dillon by bringing in his extensive club experience and deep understanding of the game. His portfolio will include AFL operations, integrity, security, club relations, funding, the upcoming collective bargaining agreement, and salary and soft caps. Harley has been pivotal in leading the Swans through significant growth, including navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and establishing the club's AFLW team. Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann recently also joined the AFL as football performance executive, reflecting a broader effort to bridge the gap between AFL leadership and clubs. The Sydney Swans have commenced the search for Harley's successor, with Harley remaining in his role until the end of the men's season to ensure a smooth transition.
