Rare Harry Potter First Edition Sells for £36,000

A rare first edition of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' recently sold for £36,000 at an auction in Lichfield, Staffordshire. Christine McCulloch purchased the book for just £10 in 1997 for her son Adam, who discovered its significant value during the 2020 lockdown. The auctioneer, Hansons Auctioneers, noted the book was one of only 500 printed in the first run and had a valuation between £30,000 and £50,000. In another auction, a different first edition copy was expected to fetch between £60,000 and £80,000 to honor the final wishes of Katie King, who passed away from cancer. Meanwhile, a first edition gifted by J.K. Rowling’s literary agent recently sold for £79,140, showcasing the high demand for such collectibles. These transactions highlight the enduring popularity and significance of the Harry Potter series in the literary world.
