Minnesota Lawmakers Targeted in Fatal Shootings

Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed in their Brooklyn Park home in a targeted, politically motivated attack early Saturday morning. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were also shot multiple times at their Champlin home but survived surgery and are currently under medical care. The suspect, described as a white male with brown hair and black body armor, was posing as a law enforcement officer and remains at large. Authorities have issued a shelter-in-place order for residents near the Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park. Governor Tim Walz has activated the State Emergency Operations Center and placed all 201 state lawmakers under protective custody. The attacks have shocked the community and sparked widespread condemnation from state officials, who are urging full support for law enforcement's response.
