Paul McCartney Opens Rare Beatles Photo Exhibition in London

A rare exhibition titled 'Rearview Mirror: Liverpool–London–Paris' featuring over 250 intimate photographs taken by Paul McCartney during 1963-64 is set to open at the Gagosian Gallery in London starting August 28, 2025. Using his 35mm Pentax camera, McCartney captured candid moments of The Beatles during their UK tours, Paris residency, and the period immediately before their historic first trip to America, providing an intimate look at the band before Beatlemania reached its peak. The exhibition showcases single and multi-image works, including backstage scenes, candid group camaraderie, and an enigmatic self-portrait of McCartney in the attic where he composed 'Yesterday.' These remastered photos, some thought lost for over half a century, reveal both the band's personal dynamics and their early rise to global stardom. Gagosian's director of photography noted the significance of McCartney's own perspective in documenting the formative months when The Beatles were becoming aware of their cultural impact. The exhibition runs until early October 2025 and offers a unique visual and historical record of a transformative era in music and popular culture.
