Mother Fatally Shot Confronting Drug Dealers in Oakland

Maria Ramos, a 33-year-old mother of eight, was fatally shot in East Oakland after confronting a group of suspected drug dealers she believed were selling marijuana vape pens to her children. The incident occurred on August 7 when Ramos and her mother, Blanca Velasco, followed a blue Toyota they suspected of delivering drugs and attempted to talk to its occupants. Surveillance footage shows Ramos exiting the car and releasing pepper spray before a 16-year-old boy shot her multiple times. Velasco, who witnessed the event, attempted to shield her daughter by placing her car between them and the suspects. Ramos was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind her eight children aged 1 to 15. The alleged shooter was arrested, while 19-year-old Isaiah Gomez, the driver of the Toyota, faces charges as an accessory to the crime.
