Multiple Wildfires Held Near Penticton After Lightning Sparks

A wildfire near Shatford Creek on Green Mountain outside of Penticton, BC, caused by lightning, is currently classified as 'being held' by BC Wildfire Service, meaning it is expected to remain within its current perimeter. The fire, discovered on June 16, has grown slightly to about 0.7 hectares and is burning in difficult terrain but poses no threat to the nearby Apex Mountain residential community. Firefighting efforts include multiple air resources such as air tankers, helicopters, and bird dogs, as well as ground crews and initial attack teams. Separately, a 10-acre brush fire is burning in Phoenix near North Mountain, with approximately 100 firefighters working to contain it amid challenging conditions caused by strong winds and high heat.
