Theater Chains Plan $2.2 Billion Upgrades

The eight largest movie theater chains in the U.S. and Canada, representing over 21,000 screens, have announced a $2.2 billion investment over the next three years aimed at modernizing theater experiences. This initiative, confirmed by the National Association of Theatre Owners, aims to enhance facilities with new laser projection technology, improved sound systems, and more comfortable seating. In addition to traditional upgrades, theaters will introduce family entertainment options such as arcades and bowling. The investment comes in response to the increasing competition from streaming services and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry. NATO President Michael O'Leary emphasized the need to offer unique entertainment experiences to attract moviegoers back to theaters.
