Detroit Lions to Cut Jalen Reeves-Maybin Ahead of 2025 Season

The Detroit Lions are set to release linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin as a cost-cutting measure ahead of the new league year, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. This decision comes after a season marked by injury, where Reeves-Maybin missed seven games and recorded 14 tackles. His release will free up approximately $2 million in salary cap space but will incur a dead cap hit of $2.75 million. The Lions had signed Reeves-Maybin to a two-year, $8 million contract last year after his Pro Bowl selection and All-Pro honors. As the team prepares for free agency, general manager Brad Holmes is also considering other potential roster moves, including evaluating the future of pass rusher Za'Darius Smith. The Lions currently have about $51 million in cap space to work with for the upcoming season.
