Downtown Nashville Library Parking Garage Collapses After Fire, Library and Hotel Evacuated

A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Downtown Public Library Parking Garage in Nashville, causing significant structural damage including a partial collapse between the fourth and fifth floors. The blaze, which involved multiple vehicle explosions, prompted an evacuation of the adjacent Renaissance Hotel and forced the temporary closure of Nashville Public Library’s main branch. Fire officials from the Nashville Fire Department quickly responded and contained the fire, with preliminary investigations finding no signs of foul play. Structural engineers are currently assessing the garage's stability, which has been deemed unsafe and will remain closed indefinitely, disrupting parking for locals and visitors. The Nashville Department of Transportation and Nashville Downtown Partnership are coordinating alternative parking options and assisting affected vehicle owners. Mayor Freddie O’Connell praised the fire department's swift response and asked for public patience while repair plans are developed.
