Sony, AMD Elevate PS5 Pro with FSR 4 Tech

Sony is enhancing the PlayStation 5 Pro with new upscaling technology, planning to integrate a version of AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) into the console by 2026. The collaboration with AMD, dubbed 'Project Amethyst', aims to evolve Sony's proprietary PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to match the capabilities of FSR 4, which uses AI to upscale lower-resolution images to higher resolutions like 4K. Mark Cerny, PlayStation's lead system architect, has confirmed that this development will allow for crisper graphics, positioning the PS5 Pro as a leading choice for graphical enthusiasts. While FSR 4 is already available on AMD's latest RX 9070 GPUs, its implementation on the PS5 Pro will take time due to the complexity of integrating such advanced technology. Despite the delay, Sony continues to encourage developers to use PSSR in upcoming games and anticipates the new technology will enhance future titles and possibly influence the next generation of consoles.
