Drone Attacks Cause Fires at Russian Krasnodar Refinery, Military, Rail Stations
Early on August 7, a Ukrainian drone strike caused a fire at the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar region by igniting a gas and gas-condensate processing unit, which was extinguished by emergency crews within hours. The Afipsky refinery, crucial for processing 6 to 7 million tons of crude oil annually and supplying diesel fuel to Russia's economy and armed forces, has been targeted multiple times since the 2022 invasion, with previous significant damage reported in December 2023 and February 2025. Alongside the refinery attack, drones also struck a military base in Slavyansk-on-Kuban and two railway stations in the Volgograd region, disrupting transportation infrastructure. Russian air defenses reportedly shot down numerous Ukrainian drones overnight, with at least four people wounded in the Krasnodar and Belgorod regions. Despite the fire and damage, the Afipsky refinery has resumed normal operations, though the extent of the damage remains unclear, and the incident may affect crude oil processing and export dynamics. Additional incidents included falling UAV debris causing fires and injuries, and unmanned boats being intercepted near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
