Eight Arrested in Right-Wing Terror Plot in Germany

German authorities have arrested eight individuals, including Kurt Hättasch, a local politician from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, during a large-scale operation against a right-wing extremist group known as the 'Saxon Separatists'. This group, described as militant and consisting of 15 to 20 members, is accused of planning to establish a society based on National Socialism and proposes ethnic cleansing of 'undesired groups' in eastern Germany. The raids were conducted across Saxony, Poland, and Austria, involving searches of around 20 properties. Hättasch reportedly confronted police with a long gun during the arrest, resulting in a jaw injury that required surgery. The AfD has distanced itself from the group and indicated that if the allegations are confirmed, Hättasch would be expelled from the party. This incident follows a series of extremist-related scandals that have plagued the AfD, which continues to maintain significant electoral support in Germany.
