Subway CEO John Chidsey Steps Down
Subway's CEO, John Chidsey, will retire at the end of 2024 after a transformative five-year tenure, during which he guided the chain through significant challenges and brand updates. Carrie Walsh, currently the president for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, will take over as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Chidsey was the first CEO from outside the founding DeLuca family and initiated critical changes, including freshly slicing deli meats and enhancing digital orders, amidst declining sales and store closures. Subway has faced increasing competition and reported a decrease in store count, with closures impacting its presence across the U.S. Despite these challenges, Chidsey expressed pride in the team's accomplishments and confidence in Walsh's leadership. The company is now positioned for further international expansion with Chidsey remaining as a consultant.
