Ericsson and SoftBank have entered into a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop advanced technologies under the concept of 'NextWave Tech', which includes AI, Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN), Extended Reality (XR), and 6G. The collaboration, set to run until 2030, aims to evaluate and promote new use cases that will shape the future of cellular networks and enhance network architectures. Both companies are committed to investing in these technologies, with a focus on commercial readiness for Cloud RAN and incorporating AI for improved network automation. Additionally, they will explore innovative network design strategies for XR applications and aim to establish Japan as a leader in 6G through the adoption of centimetre wave technologies. Ericsson's president in Japan, Jawad Manssour, emphasized the partnership's potential to revolutionize mobile networks, while SoftBank's executive VP, Hideyuki Tsukuda, highlighted opportunities for technological breakthroughs and improved customer experience. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in realizing the full potential of AI-powered connectivity technologies.
