San Diego Woman Sentenced for Heroin Bible Smuggling

Lucresia Stone-Rojas, a 46-year-old woman from San Diego, was sentenced to over seven years in prison for attempting to smuggle heroin into two California state prisons using Bibles. Initially arrested in November 2023 for unlawful possession of a firearm after being stopped in a stolen Porsche, Stone-Rojas was later found with heroin-filled Bibles addressed to inmates. The Bibles contained approximately 23 grams of heroin hidden in their spines. Stone-Rojas pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug smuggling into prisons, with acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden emphasizing its dangers. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which aims to reduce violent crime and drug trafficking.
