Palm Springs Bombing Accomplice Daniel Park Dies in LA Custody
Daniel Jongyon Park, 32, who was charged with providing explosive materials to Guy Edward Bartkus, the suicide bomber responsible for the May 17 attack on the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic in Palm Springs, died while in federal custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. Park was found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead at a local hospital, with the cause of death currently unknown. Authorities allege Park supplied approximately 270 pounds of ammonium nitrate, a key bomb-making precursor, to Bartkus, who detonated a car bomb that killed himself, injured several others, and caused extensive damage to the clinic and surrounding area. Park had fled the United States shortly after the bombing, was detained in Poland, and extradited back to the U.S., where he was arrested at JFK Airport. Despite the scale of the explosion, no clinic staff or stored reproductive materials were harmed. Investigations continue into Park's death as federal officials emphasize the case highlights the dangers of online extremist ideologies manifesting in violent attacks.
