Xbox Mobile App Update Adds Purchases, New Tools

Microsoft has released a major April update to the Xbox mobile app for iOS and Android, enabling users to purchase games, DLC, join Game Pass, redeem perks, and pre-install purchased games directly from the app. The update introduces a 'Free Up Space' tool and expands backward compatibility for remote play. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now use the 'Stream Your Own Game' feature to stream select owned games from their Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One consoles, reducing the need to download and freeing up storage. Remote Play has been removed from the app and is now accessible only via web browsers or supported smart devices such as Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and Meta Quest headsets. These changes are part of Xbox’s strategy to unify and streamline the gaming ecosystem while shifting users toward browser-based and integrated device streaming. The update is currently available to beta testers, with a broader rollout expected soon.
