Motherwell Appoints Jens Berthel Askou as New Manager

Motherwell Football Club has appointed Jens Berthel Askou as their new manager, succeeding Michael Wimmer who left to join Jahn Regensburg. The 42-year-old Dane, formerly assistant manager at FC Copenhagen, has a diverse coaching background including spells in Denmark, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands, where he won league titles and was named manager of the season. Askou expressed pride and excitement about joining Motherwell, emphasizing alignment in ambitions and morals with the club's board. Chairman Kyrk Macmillan highlighted the rigorous selection process and praised Askou's track record in developing young players and delivering success at big clubs. Before appointing Askou, Motherwell considered several candidates including former Everton set-piece coach Charlie Adam and Central Coast Mariners boss Mark Jackson, reflecting the club’s openness to diverse options. Askou’s appointment is subject to a UK work permit, expected soon, allowing him to start preparing for the upcoming season.
