Hurricane Hone, which sideswiped Hawaii as a Category 1 hurricane, has weakened to a tropical storm and caused significant rain, flash flooding, and power outages affecting over 24,000 homes. Meanwhile, Hurricane Gilma, initially a Category 3 storm, is also weakening and is expected to become a tropical depression by the time it nears Hawaii later this week. A third storm, Tropical Storm Hector, is gaining strength in the Pacific Ocean but remains far from land. Hawaiian Electric is working to restore power to affected areas, with over 18,000 customers still without electricity. The National Hurricane Center expects all three storms to weaken in the coming days.
