Two Albany Children Die After Ice Accident

Tragedy struck at Washington Park Lake in Albany, New York, where two children, a 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, died after falling through the ice. The incident occurred on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. when the boy fell into the icy water while attempting to walk across the frozen lake, prompting the girl to dive in to save him. Despite rapid rescue efforts by Albany police and firefighters, the girl succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday after being hospitalized in critical condition, while the boy's body was recovered the same evening. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan expressed shock at the children's actions given the thin ice conditions, emphasizing the importance of educating the community about the dangers of venturing onto frozen bodies of water. The identities of the deceased children have not been released, and the community mourns this heartbreaking loss.
