The incident was broadcast live and has drawn attention to player-fan interactions. Pham, who was previously suspended in 2022 for slapping a fellow player over a fantasy football dispute, is appealing the current suspension and remains eligible to play until the appeal is resolved. The disciplinary action coincides with the start of the Pirates' series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pham signed with the Pirates in February and is currently batting .184 over 23 games this season. The fine amount has not been disclosed.
