Apple boosts iPhone production in India to 20%
Apple has significantly ramped up its iPhone production in India, assembling $22 billion worth of devices over the past year, which marks a nearly 60% increase from the previous year. Now, 20% of Apple's iPhones are manufactured in India, primarily at Foxconn's facility, as the company continues to shift its supply chain away from China, a trend initiated during COVID-19 lockdowns. In response to U.S. tariffs, Apple has also expedited shipments, airlifting 600 tons of iPhones, roughly 1.5 million devices, from India to the U.S. This strategic move aims to mitigate the impact of high tariffs on Chinese imports, which can reach up to 125%. The increased production in India and subsequent exports to the U.S. reflect Apple's focus on diversifying its supply chain while maintaining a strong presence in the American market. Analysts have noted that this shift may help stabilize prices for consumers amid rising tariffs on imports from China.
