The agency highlighted that foreign intelligence agents target young students through job ads, online dating, and high-paying part-time opportunities disguised as academic or market research, and manipulate them by offering free training and guidance via social media, phone, or video conferencing. These agents often pretend to be university scholars or consultants and may even change their gender to deceive students. While specific countries were not named, in June, China accused Britain's MI6 of recruiting a couple to spy for the UK. China's increased vigilance under Xi Jinping reflects ongoing tensions and mutual accusations of espionage between China and Western powers.
