Spotsylvania Homeowner Shoots Teen During Alleged Break-In Attempt

Authorities in Spotsylvania County are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Bosworth Jr., a Massaponax High School senior, by a homeowner during an alleged attempted break-in early Saturday morning. According to police, Bosworth and two juveniles were in the backyard of a residence around 3 a.m. when they were confronted by the homeowner, who fired several shots, killing Bosworth and injuring one of the other teens. Neighbors reported multiple gunshots and suggested the teens may have tried to break into other homes that night, though the surviving teens claimed they were participating in a TikTok prank rather than attempting burglary. Evidence at the scene indicated an attempt to kick in the back door. Authorities have not yet decided whether to charge the homeowner as the investigation remains ongoing. Grief counselors have been made available at Massaponax High School to support students following Bosworth's death.
