Emma Raducanu Appoints Rafael Nadal’s Former Coach Francis Roig Full-Time Ahead US Open

Emma Raducanu has appointed Francis Roig, Rafael Nadal's longtime former coach, as her full-time coach through the end of the 2025 season, ahead of the US Open. Roig, who worked alongside Nadal's uncle Toni for most of Nadal's career and also coached Matteo Berrettini and Sloane Stephens, joins Raducanu after she had been training informally with British coach Mark Petchey, who could not commit full-time due to broadcasting duties. Raducanu, currently ranked 33rd in the world, has shown improved form this season with notable results including quarterfinals at Miami and Queen's Club, a semifinal in Washington, and competitive matches against top players like Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon. Roig's task will be to help Raducanu maintain and build on her all-court skills and athleticism, particularly against powerful opponents, as she aims to be seeded at the US Open. Raducanu expressed excitement about working with Roig, highlighting his vast experience and the positive start to their partnership at the Cincinnati Open, the final tournament before the US Open begins. Despite the coaching change, Raducanu plans to stay in contact with Petchey, acknowledging his previous contributions to her recent progress.
